'ALL YOU NEED IS CASH'
Artistic director David Sefton showed us he knew his business when in early
March bookings for his first Adelaide Festival surged past their box office
target. But he had already broken other records: first when in 1993 he founded
the annual Meltdown Festival at London’s Royal Festival Hall, now credited with
re-writing the rules by putting musicians in charge of programming. The last
decade he spent heading the nine-month long arts festival, UCLA Live, in Los
Angeles, A forthright Liverpudlian brought up on the sounds of today’s music,
Sefton is also a keen observer of Australia’s arts culture.
