Platform Paper 45 Launch with Cathy Hunt

Cathy Hunt is a founding director of Positive Solutions, a Brisbane-based consultancy in the cultural and non-profit sectors. She co-authored the 2008 Platform Paper, A Sustainable Arts Sector, and has written widely on cultural policy. She was also co-executive producer of WOW Brisbane in June.

Professor Judith McLean holds a Chair in Arts Education jointly funded by QUT’s Creative Industries Faculty and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). Her doctoral thesis focused on the meaning, place and importance of collaboration in teaching-artists in their praxis.

This paper shows how this action has exposed the fragility of our national arts funding, and the urgent need for change. Cathy Hunt responds to this challenge by arguing that only changes at a system level to the task of building sector resilience will enable the excellence called for to be achieved. This must include introducing a new funding framework with government and the philanthropic sector working together, new business models and new forms of financing to get there. Her findings are surprising.
