Arts and Public Life Breakfast 'Beyond the Arts.'

Robyn Archer
Robyn Archer AO, internationally renowned singer, festival director and arts activist, will share the new perspective of the arts in society that she has gained while planning the year-long celebrations for the Centenary of Canberra in 2013. Artists may be seen as exclusive but are embedded in everything that a society is; in science, sport, design, architecture and city-planning. ‘But if we believe, as I do, that arts are essential in the mix’, she asks, ‘are we making the best of our artists?’ With her characteristic frankness she issues a warning about the current crisis in arts education. ‘No job prospects for artists’, says the NSW Government, now planning to axe arts courses at TAFE.
